This House unanimously resolves to urge the Government of India not to accept the recommendation of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India to recognise, ‘Manipuri Bishnupriya’ or ‘Bishnupriya Manipuri’ as a language in place of ‘Bishnupriya’.

The House also resolves that the Government of India be moved to delete the word ‘Manipuri’ from the prefix and suffix of the word ‘Bishnupriya’ recorded by the Registrar General of Census as ‘Manipuri Bishnupriya’ or Bishnupriya Manipuri’ since Manipuri and Bishnupriya are two distinct and separate languages.

Further, this House resolves to urge the Governments of Assam and Tripura to review their decisions on the issue of ‘Manipuri Bishnupriya’ or ‘Bishnupriya Manipuri’ in the light of the above resolution, and to delete the word ‘Manipuri’ from Bishnupriya’.
